Joanne pulls out all the stops to play at The Rex

The organist for this month’s concert at the Rex Cinema, Elland, on Sunday November 15 at 2.30pm is Joanne Naulls.

Joanne is now a regular at the Rex, having originally been recommended by the late Dr Arnold Loxam. She was ten years old when she began playing an old Galanti organ which her mother and father gave her, and turned professional only seven years later. In the meantime she received lessons from a church organist until an organ shop opened in her home town of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, after which she was taught by the proprietor who was an ex-theatre organist.

When playing the keyboard with a dance band for a concert at Harworth, Joanne was invited to ‘have a go’ on the Christie organ there which led to the opportunity to play for Robert Wolfe . She left the dance band at 14 and played on her own in numerous clubs, with concert dates soon following.
