Halifax G&S Society brings sunny Venice to The Halifax Playhouse with The Gondoliers
The Halifax Gilbert & Sullivan Society will bring The Gondoliers to Halifax Playhouse in November.
The run of shows will take place at 7.30pm from November 11 to 14, with a Saturday matinee performance at 2.30pm.
Brought by director Christine Roberts and musical director Richard Buxton, the comic opera will be accompanied by a 15-piece orchestra and follows two Venetian gondoliers, Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri, who have just married their sweethearts, Gianetta and Tessa.
Their marital bliss is disrupted, however, when it is revealed that one of the two gondoliers is the rightful King of Barataria, who was spirited away in infancy and secretly married to Casilda.
Not knowing which gondolier is the true king, they agree to reign together, until the old royal nurse can be found to reveal the monarch’s true identity.
