Modern adaptation of festive classic A Christmas Carol to be staged in Halifax

Another Christmas Carol, by Halifax duo Shane Gough and Ryan O’Donnell, follows the story of Eleanor Scrooge and is on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November, including a matinee performance.

Shane said: “Theatre has always been a huge part of my life, and writing a show of my own is something I’ve wanted to do for years.

"I couldn’t think of anyone better to share that journey with than my best friend Ryan O’Donnell.

"We both started our theatrical journeys at the Actors Workshop Youth Theatre, where our love for storytelling and performance first took shape, so bringing this project to life together feels like a real full circle moment.

"I’ve always loved the heart of A Christmas Carol and its timeless themes of redemption, hope, compassion and the power of change.

"With Another Christmas Carol, we wanted to take a story that audiences know and love and explore it through a more modern lens, asking what those themes mean to us today.

"While the spirit of Dickens’ original remains at its heart, audiences can expect a fresh take on a familiar tale, with unexpected twists, humour, heartfelt moments and characters who bring their own perspectives to this much loved story.

"It’s a festive story that balances the warmth and magic audiences associate with Christmas with a few surprises along the way, hopefully leaving people with plenty to think about long after the curtain comes down.

"We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created together and excited to bring Another Christmas Carol to life.

"Having both begun our journeys at the Actors Workshop under the teachings of Mike and Lottie Ward, making Foot of the Barrel’s debut on the Victoria Theatre main stage in Halifax feels particularly special.

"It’s a real privilege to be sharing something so personal with audiences, and we can’t wait for everyone to come along and experience our version of this classic Christmas story.”

Tickets are available on the Victoria Theatre website.
