Thespians bring West End romp to Playhouse

Ray Cooney's comedy sees London cab driver, John Smith, literally leading two lives, complete with two wives, Mary and Barbara.

Somehow he manages to juggle the situation without arousing suspicion.

However fate catches up with him when he gets mugged and wakes up in a hospital and all his careful planning goes awry.

He ends up with the wrong wife by his side and is forced to start explaining everything to both of his wives and the police all at the same time.

The play which starred Richard Briers and Bernard Cribbens, was a massive success when it began a run in the West End in 1983 and continued at various theatres for nine years.

It eventually became a hit on both sides of the Atlantic and is still a firm favourite with amateur theatre groups.

Cooney has written eighteen plays which have been successesful in the West End.

Director Polly Bryan has the benefit of an experienced cast - Colin Harris, Ros O’Connor, Lynn Lord, Roy Byrom, Paul Dargan, Nigel Town, Jon Timmis and Judith Hardacre.
