Bid for new beauty salon above Calderdale bar

A beauty treatment suite might better suit premises above a Calderdale bar than residential space, argues a planning application.

An application has been submitted to Calderdale Council seeking permission to change the use of the first and second floors of the Bradford Road in Brighouse property into beauty treatment rooms.

A supporting statement from agents says number 26 is a property at first and second floor level above number 24, which is the Truth bar and café.

If planners agree, the rooms will function as a nail bar, massage rooms and make-up type services, says the agent.

At the moment, the space in question is being used as an Air B ‘n’ B apartment and was previously a rental flat, according to the supporting statement.

The ground floor is a cafe bar and will continue to operate independently of the top two floors.

The existing internal staircase will be retained and used to access the beauty suite.

Parking is not a problem at what is a town centre site, says the agent.

Also in terms of travel links, it is immediately next to Brighouse Bus Station and the town also has a train station, they say.

“The use of beauty treatment rooms is a less onerous use than residential accommodation in a mixed use town centre location.

“The proposed accommodation will not be affected by the cafe bar use beneath,” argues the statement.

The application, number 26/00618/FUL, and other documents can be viewed on the planning portal on Calderdale Council’s website.
