Rizwaan Ali has purchased the Halifax franchise of the business, which already operates in other areas, and hopes it will help food outlets across Calderdale to attract new customers.

“Being a local lad myself I want us to support our local businesses and give back to the community whilst trying to brush the big corporations aside to help rid of extortionate fees and commissions,” he said.

Some of the Halifax eateries signed up with are Sweet Delight @ The Mill Cafe, Delhi Wala Food, Bam Bam Vegan Kitchen, The Hub Cafe, Chicken Xpress and West Parade Fisheries.

“My aim is to create an app for the community of Halifax and one that the consumers and businesses benefit from. The big corporations are all about the profits, yes they’ll reduce prices and commissions due to Covid but once we are back to normal, every day life, the prices will just hike up again. We want to ensure the money is staying in Halifax by investing and working with local charities, free advertising for our partners and sponsoring local sports teams.”

The business won’t initially offer a delivery service, with the cafes and takeaways still delivering the food themselves, but Rizwaan is hoping the app will offer its own delivery service later this year, employing local people.

“We want to give businesses who normally wouldn’t pay the high fees from Just Eat an opportunity to join a platform and work together with us to help them grow.”
