The government has allocated around £10 million to Calderdale Council to support businesses through several new grants.

This builds on the 5,500 coronavirus-related grants which the Council has already paid out to businesses across the borough during the pandemic, totalling about £62 million.

Councillor Jane Scullion, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Strategy, said: “Our local businesses are a major part of Calderdale’s economy and distinctiveness. We know they have been hit extremely hard by COVID-19 and that many of them are anxious about their current and future trade.

"We are doing everything we can to support them. Our teams, along with our partner organisations, have been working around the clock giving information, advice, one-to-one support and grants to our most affected businesses since the pandemic began.

“We are proud of the amazing resilience, talent and enterprise that our local businesses have continued to show, but we know that the new national restrictions will bring further worry.

Local Restriction Support Grant (Sector)

This grant applies to businesses which have been required to close since the first lockdown in March 2020, such as nightclubs. The Council is awaiting further detail and an allocation from the government and will update local businesses as soon as possible.

Discretionary grants

The Council is working as quickly as possible to develop further grant schemes for businesses which are not eligible for the other new grants detailed above. Supporting local businesses remains a priority and more information will be available soon.
