No major incidents during third day of firefighter strike

Two periods of Fire Brigades Union (FBU) industrial action took place between 6am and 8am and between 5pm and 7pm.

In total West Yrorkshire Fire Service received 21 calls throughout the two periods and attended 13 incidents. Some calls were of a minor nature and did not require attendance. No emergencies went unattended.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton said: “We have almost reached the mid-point in this eight-day strike period and would ask people to bear with us and remain vigilant in their day to day lives. This will reduce the need to call on our limited resources.”

Between 5pm and 7pm the service received 20 calls and attended 12 incidents.

At 6.04pm a dog was stuck in a drainpipe in Weeton Lane, Dunkeswick,

The service also attended five fires in the open (three in Bradford , one in Huddersfield and one in Wakefield) and six automatic fire alarms across the county.

During the earlier strike, between 6am and 8am, the service received and attended one call, which was an automatic fire alarm in Harehills, Leeds.

The contingency arrangements allowed for 22 fire engines during the morning strike and 21 during the evening strike. The service’s full fleet is 54.
