Two Halifax pubs shutting this week

The Water Mill Brewers Fayre, on Huddersfield Road at Salterhebble, closes today.

And Beefeater at Broad Street Plaza in Halifax town centre will close on Thursday (September 10).

As reported by the Courier, the closures come as the pubs’ parent company Whitbread – which also owns Premier Inn - shuts dozens of other premises across the country and says it will become a hotel-only business.

All of its Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants will either be converted into extra Premier Inn rooms or sold off.

Messages on both pub’s websites say: “Following the restaurant closure, Premier Inn guests will continue to enjoy breakfast, evening meals and drinks throughout their stay. Please visit the Premier Inn website for more information.”

A spokesperson for Whitbread said: “We will continue to offer a great breakfast and dinner at all hotels, replacing branded restaurants with a restaurant inside the hotel.

"This mirrors the format which is already in operation in over half of Premier Inn hotels and is highly popular with hotel guests.”

When the company announced it was considering the closures earlier this year, it said the move was expected to result in a loss of nearly 4,000 jobs across the company.

A spokesperson said in May: "As a business which recruits around 15,000 people every year, we expect to be able to retain a significant proportion of those affected and will be looking to redeploy as many of our impacted colleagues as possible.

"However, we do anticipate that the proposed changes, which are subject to consultation, would result in a reduction of around 3,800 roles of a total UK and Ireland workforce of around 30,000.

"We will do all we can to support those colleagues affected.”
