Food for Life Get Togethers, a Soil Association programme, are supporting Halifax based organisation Skillshop to connect people of all ages using the power of good food.

This is thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

They plan on creating a food growing garden with their community in partnership with Trinity Academy Secondary School and Lee Mount and Hazleroyd Elderly Care Homes.

More than nine million people say they often or always feel lonely. At the same time, many children and young people in Halifax do not live near their grandparents and therefore miss out on opportunities to bond with those from different generations and backgrounds.

Food for Life Get Togethers aims to create social hubs at the centre of communities that bring people together to cook and eat together, grow food and form new friendships. Skillshop’s project will be key to reaching as many people in Halifax as possible.

It also gives Skillshop the opportunity to work together with the wider community, giving our neighbours the chance to understand who we are and what we can do, and to get involved, not only with this Food For Life Get Togethers project but with Skillshop as a whole, and working collaboratively with our community will then hopefully continue well in to the future."
