Clifton pupils help plant trees as part of a community project

Children at St John’s CE Primary Academy Clifton, have been taking part in a community project by helping to plant trees in their local park.

The project was led by the Clifton Village Community Association (CVCA) and inspired by BBC Countryfile and their ‘Plant Britain’ campaign.

The aim is to replace trees in the park that have died over the last 20 years, and the CVCA have used ‘rescue trees’ that would not have survived where they were previously growing.

The children were given the chance to ask lots of questions about the environment and helped to dig, plant and water the trees.

They will continue to look after the tree they planted as it grows over the next few years.

Richard Burkinshaw, CMBC Conservation Volunteer and Community Association Committee member who organised the planting said: "It's great to see the young generation so enthusiastic and committed to tree planting for the environment, climate and the ongoing beauty of the village"
