Rastrick High School headteacher, Steve Evans, said: “Due to the unprecedented circumstances we all find ourselves in, we have supplies of items at school that we can’t currently use, including protective eyewear and gloves.

“These would ordinarily be used by our pupils and staff in lessons such as science and design technology, but we wanted to ensure they were put to best use to support the outstanding efforts of our local NHS workers in looking after patients with the virus.

“Our staff rallied together and swiftly collected what we felt would be most beneficial for the staff at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary from the existing supplies we had in school before taking them to the hospital and dropping them off at a safe distance.

“Our NHS staff are putting themselves at risk every day to care for us, and I’m proud that the school has done what we can to help.”
