Emergency repairs have recently been made to stabilise the partially collapsed culvert on Walsden Water which was likely to cause flooding in the area.

The Environment Agency employed contractors BAM Nuttall to carry out temporary works which included propping up the culvert and preventing the watercourse from becoming blocked.

They have repaired significant damage caused by the recent flooding events that affected the culvert bed, walls and support beams beneath Shade Chapel.

Water is now flowing unrestricted through the culvert and routine inspections will continue to be made.

However the damage to the building is extensive and a long-term solution is needed to ensure the safety of the culvert.

Jo Arnold, senior flood and coast risk management officer in Calderdale, with the Environment Agency, said: “We would encourage anyone who is interested in finding out more about plans for flood resilience work near Shade Chapel to join our meeting.
