The 2.6 challenge was launched in place of this year’s London Marathon, in a bid to lessen the impact of cancelled events during the busy Spring/Summer fundraising season.

The viral challenge consists of undertaking some sort of challenge that centres around the number 2.6 or 26, such as running 2.6 miles every day for a month, cycling 26 miles or even creating 26 paintings.

Event Fundraiser Jess Bailey commented “It is fantastic to see so many people getting involved with this challenge. We have had people baking 26 scones, cycling 2.6 miles, running 26 laps around their garden it’s been great to see how creative supporters are getting.”

Overgate Hospice has had to temporarily close all fourteen of its charity shops and cancel several of its upcoming events. Despite losing these two major sources of income, the hospice still needs to find £11,600 every day, in order to continue its care in the Calderdale community.

Emilie Overend and her boyfriend Ben Pedley ran 2.6 miles around their home village of Lindley, raising £225 for the hospice. The two chose to support Overgate, as Ben’s grandma Jean passed away at Overgate in December 2019.

Emilie said: “We completed our 2.6 Challenge at the weekend. We ran 2.6miles around Lindley, this was a challenge for me as I never usually run so I knew it was going to be tough but in the end I really enjoyed it.

“We chose to fundraise for this amazing charity as it holds a very special place in our hearts.

“The Pedley family will be forever grateful for the amazing care and help the staff at Overgate provided for Jean.

“Even after Jean passed away, the hospice gave us all the support and guidance needed to help the family. We can’t thank them enough; this is why we wanted to help them by raising some money.”
