Huddersfield would lose its A&E under controversial plans which have sparked a backlash from people worried about increased journey times to hospital.

Both towns would also have “urgent care centres” treating less serious ailments.

Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) said the consultation would run from Tuesday, March 15 until midnight on Tuesday, June 21.

A series of public meetings will be held over the 14-week period.

Dr Alan Brook chairman of NHS Calderdale CCG, said: “We are aware of the strength of feeling and passion that people have for health services and we encourage them to be actively involved in the consultation process.”
