The trust unveiled the latest proposals and artists’ impressions for development work and new buildings at both Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital.
The proposals include a brand new A&E building and an essential works programme of upgrading wards and theatres at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and an extension of hospital buildings with an A&E, paediatrics A&E, enhanced intensive care unit and theatres at Calderdale Royal Hospital, as well as a patient and staff car park.
The £196.5 million proposals are funded by the Department of Health and Social Care and fully supported by the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Healthcare Partnership.
So what happens now?
The Trust will be finalising planning applications in advance of submission to Calderdale and Kirklees Councils which is timetabled for May 2021.
Two planning applications will be submitted to Calderdale Council for the proposed new hospital building, and the proposed car park
Once submitted, the planning applications will be subject to further public and stakeholder consultation prior to being determined by Calderdale and Kirklees Councils within their respective statutory determination time periods.
What are the other key dates?
Subject to approval of planning applications construction of the new car park at Calderdale Royal will start in 2022. It is hoped the project will be finished in 2023 when work will also start on the new hospital building at CRH. The building is expected to be completed in 2025
The Trust said it will continue to provide existing A&E services at both CRH and HRI, with both sites remaining fully operational during the construction phase.
There are currently 809 car parking spaces on-site at CRH, used by patients, visitors and staff. The proposals will create an extra 400 extra car parking spaces.
