The fundraising campaign follows the cancellation of several of the charity’s upcoming fundraising events and the closure of their fourteen charity shops, due to the UK entering coronavirus lockdown.

Despite losing two big sources of income, the hospice still needs to find a whopping £11,600 every single day, in order to provide their round-the-clock care.

Chief Executive Janet Cawtheray shared the following heartfelt message: “For many, the last few days have seen a significant change in the way we live our lives as this crisis changes from day to day. But whilst the news focuses on the impact of this pandemic, there are still people in our community living with life-limiting illnesses who need our expert care.

“Our Fundraising Team is working hard to find virtual ways to raise money in these testing times.

“We hope while more people are at home they can get involved in raising money in this way – as you know, every penny counts and we appreciate everything that you do.

“The current crisis is placing additional financial strain on the Hospice as a consequence of losing income from our shops and our events so we are launching a new campaign.

“We are asking you to Support a Nurse for Overgate Hospice - to make a donation to help our nurses continue the vital work they do for our community.

“Any donation, no matter how small, will support the continuation of care for local people when they need it the most. Please help us if you can.

“I am so incredibly proud of every member of the hospice team for the way they have adapted to this changing situation and continue to put the wellbeing of our patients and their families at the very forefront of everything they do.

“ I can assure you that every penny of your support is making a huge difference to the people in our care.”
