Mazda confirms prices and specs for MX-30 electric crossover

Mazda’s first all-electric model, the MX-30, will cost from £25,545 when it goes on sale in the UK.

The battery powered crossover will be offered in three standard trims alongside the limited-edition First Edition model previously confirmed by the Japanese brand.

Pre-orders for the £27,495 First Edition are now open, and the limited run of 500 cars will be the first models to arrive in the UK in March 2021. The full range, incorporating SE-L Lux, Sport Lux and GT Sport Tech will then follow.

All versions of the MX-30 will use the same single 105kW electric motor, with a 35.5kWh battery providing the energy. In the current world of EVs, that’s relatively small and it will return a single-charge range of around 124 miles - some way down on the likes of the Kia Soul EV or Hyundai Kona. However, Mazda says this is a conscious decision that reflects the sort of mileage most drivers actually do and allows it to save weight by using a smaller battery pack. The smaller battery also means an 80 per cent charge at a 50kW station takes just 36 minutes.

Starting at £25,545 after the Government plug-in car grant, all MX-30s will feature 18-inch alloys, LED headlights with daytime running lights, reversing camera, adaptive cruise control with intelligent speed assist, satellite navigation and a head-up display.

SE-L Lux models will come in single-tone paint finish and also feature auto lights and wipers, an 8.8-inch infotainment display, with smartphone mirroring, seven-inch digital instrument display, and a full suite of driver aids including lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot alert and driver attention alert.

The £27,545 Sport Lux is expected to be the biggest seller, adding chrome interior detailing, heated power-adjustable seats, lumbar support adjustment and keyless entry. It also introduces an optional two- or three-tone exterior finish also seen on the First Edition models.

The range-topping GT Sport Tech costs £29,845 with a cloth interior trim and £30,045 when equipped with artificial leather upholstery. Extra equipment on top of Sport Lux includes adaptive LED headlights, a front wiper de-icer, heated steering wheel, opening sunroof and 12-speaker Bose surround sound system along with additional driver aids.

First Edition cars enjoy all the equipment of the GT Sport Tech and come in a choice of Ceramic Metallic or Polymetal Grey metallic single colours or optional three-tone Ceramic metallic Soul Red Crystal metallic paint which contrast the body colour with dark grey side pillars and gloss black roof. Other standard equipment highlights on the First Edition include adaptive LED headlights, satin D pillar trim and signature LED rear lights. Inside, the First Edition features a light grey cloth and stone leatherette upholstery combined with orange seat stitching.
