'A wall of fire': Police investigating this morning's Queensbury 'arson' incident

Police have said they are investigating a van fire as arson.

The incident happened this morning at around 2.30am on Ashbourne Crescent in Queensbury.

A Ford van was a blaze resulting in a white Hyundai car, owned by Neville Wilkinson, 80, also being set alight.

Mr Wilkinson's daughter Sarah Sutcliffe, 51, of Halifax, said: "The fuel from the van trickled down towards my dad's car, which also set alight.

"The blaze from the van looked like a 10-foot wall of fire.

"This is the second incident to happen to my dad recently after the same Hyundai car was vandalised just over a year ago.

"This time though, the car is a 'right off'.

"My dad's an indirect victim of what I believe to be a dispute with others within the area.

"The Ashbourne Crescent area has residents who are 55 years old and over.

"It's a nightmare - somebody could have been killed."

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they received a call around 2.30am this morning reporting a van on fire on Ashbourne Crescent, Queensbury.

The fire service had also been called.

A police spokeswoman said: "On attending the scene, police established that a grey Ford Panel van was on fire.

"However, a second vehicle, a white Hyundai car was also discovered burnt out.

"It's suspected the fire was started deliberately and police are investigating.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing."
