Activities raise Cancer Research cash

Todmorden Cancer Research UK have had a busy start to the year with a variety of fundraising actvities.

After raising £22,000 last year, the committee got the fundraising off to a flying start with a Ladies Italian evening at Walsden Cricket Club, which raised £767.

April saw the tenth annual fun quiz at Walsden CC, organised by Rick Lupton. The event was a sell-out, with more than 90 people attending. The trophy was won by the team Blind Vision.

Ticket and raffle sales raised just over £600, which was then rounded up to £700 by Rick/Bank House Consultants Ltd. The funds were boosted even more on the evening by an anonymous donation of £250.

Group member, Jean Howorth, said: “Massive thanks to all who came and Walsden CC for room hire, Leon Broadbent for the loan of his music equipment, National School for the loan of the extra chairs, Ann and Jane for their pie making skills and Rick for setting the questions and keeping everyone in order.”

The Todmorden Committee was formed 40 years ago and some of the early members are still active on the committee. To celebrate the anniversary 13 of the current committee members travelled to Manchester for afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel.

In recognition of their hard work they were a presented with a card and certificate from Cancer Research.

Two days later, some of the ladies visited Tesco in Sowerby Bridge to do some bag packing which raised £513.
