Record numbers of entries are due in the sheep, cattle and poultry categories, the horse show is due for a comeback, and Calderdale residents who keep their eyes to the skies at around 3pm today might see a plane complete with show banner fly over Halifax and across the Calder Valley ahead of the big day.

The show, which will be held on tomorrow at Savile Park Moor and attracts thousands of visitors each year, will have a 1940s theme and is set to include music, dancing and vehicles from the era.

Chairman Simon Booth said: “We expect the 70th anniversary show to be a great day with a great turnout, and we’d like to thank the local community for all their support.”

Joint vice chairman and cattle secretary Dean Fleming said: “It’s the biggest event we have put on, everything is going to plan. There’s been a lot of interest in Halifax, from as far out as Scotland. I can’t think of a bigger event in the area and the 70th anniversary is definitely a milestone.”

Gates open at 9.30am. Tickets available on the day or at www.halifaxagriculturalshow.co.uk.
