Armed robbery at Brighouse betting shop - police issue witness appeal

A man walked in to a Brighouse betting shop, threatened a member of staff with a weapon and escaped with cash.

Calderdale CID has issued a witnesses appeal following the incident at William Hill bookmakers, Commercial Street, Brighouse.

The lone robber entered the premises at around 6.50pm on Saturday and threatened staff before escaping with the cash.

Nobody was seriously injured in the incident and police are yet to reveal what the weapon used was.

Armed police and the police helicopter were at the scene shortly after, but the man managed to escape.

Det Insp Chris Wood, of Calderdale CID, said: “We’re appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious around that time to come forward.”

Police are not linking Saturday’s armed robbery to the one at the Ladbrokes betting shop in Ovenden Road, Halifax, last month. In that incident, which happened at around 8pm on Saturday, August 30, two men - one armed with a hammer - went into the store and demanded cash. They escaped with a quantity of money.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to that incident,
