Art works put spotlight on faiths at Calderdale Royal Hospital

With the new hospital wall hangings are Dharmachari Prasadu, Ordained member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, George Spencer, Chaplaincy Co-ordinator and Cecilia Erlandsson from The University of Huddersfield.

They wall hangings were designed by Cecilia Erlandsson, a Textiles student at The University of Huddersfield, to represents the places of worship associated with the seven major faiths in our community: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Baha’i.

Both designs are printed on a synthetic material produced from a local textile company which provided their services for free.

Mr Jas Bir Singh Mahil of Yorkshire Fur Fabrics, said: “When I heard the hospitals wanted to produce a textile I was very pleased to be able to help.”

Co-ordinating chaplain, George Spencer said: “The new wall hangings express our aspirations to be a service to support all patients of whatever faith or tradition and we hope to get them blessed in the near future.”

Cecilia said: “My dissertation was based on religion in art and design. I chose buildings that represent the seven faiths served by the Hope Centres and the blue colour to match the décor in the Hope Centres.”

The works have also been installed at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
