Brass bands impress at competition

The Brighouse & Rastrick Band has successful gone through to the National Brass Band Championships after placing fifth at a regional competition.

The Black Dyke Band, of Queensbury, also celebrated after coming fourth at the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships, championship section, which was held at St George’s Hall, Bradford, at the weekend.

Now, both the bands will compete against the best brass groups from around the UK in October at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Elsewhere in Calderdale, the Hebden Bridge Band came fifth in the First Section; while the Elland Silver band placed seventh and Clifton & Lightcliffe came 11th. In the Third Section, Clifton & Lightcliffe B placed 11th and in the Fouth Section, the Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass came eighth and the Friendly Band finished in 11th place.

Last year, the Brighouse & Rastrick Band placed first which meant they were automatically through to this year’s national championships.
