A VILLAGE road is blocked after a wagon overturned and spilled its load of tarmac.

A resurfacing project was underway at Lee Wood Road, Heptonstall.

A wagon delivering tarmac was waiting to unload when a wall collapsed and the vehicle slipped onto its side at about 10.45am today.

The driver was rescued from the wagon and is believed to be uninjured.

Derek Sutcliffe, who lives in the village, said: “Fortunately there’s a tree there which stopped the wagon rolling over and slipping all the way down the road.

“There’s quite a big bit of wall down and a lot of damage.

“I imagine the road will be blocked for quite a while.”
