Calderdale town centre street remains cordoned after pet shop's roof collapses

A street in Halifax town centre has been cordoned off by maintenance workers after a roof collapsed yesterday.

The fire service, police and the Calderdale Council were all in attendance in Southgate yesterday afternoon after the roof of Paw Prints roof fell through.

Two fire engines from Illingworth Fire Station and one from Halifax Fire Station were called to the scene around 3pm.

It was confirmed no one was injured.

The council have said the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have taken up the investigation.

The cordon has been put in place by Haven Building & Maintenance on the Old Cock Yard courtyard to the rear of the commercial premises.

Paw Prints reopened this morning after it was deemed safe to for staff to reenter the premises.

The space next to Paw Prints was home to the former Game store, which was demolished in 2017 amid being badly damaged due to a fire.

The fire service have been approached for a statement regarding ysterday's incident.

Paw Prints have also been approached for a comment.
