Calderdale woman awarded MBE

A Calderdale woman who has been awarded an MBE for services to the community thinks significant positive change can be “small and local”.

Chairwoman of the National Association for Voluntary Community Action Caroline Schwaller, of Kirk Lane in Hipperholme, was included in the Queen’s Birthday Honours after years of dedication to the third sector.

Retired voluntary sector worker Carolinew, who lived in Halifax for about 24 years, sees her accolade as a tribute to the profession.

Caroline, 63, said: “I think I could say I’m rather dazed. I’m not sure it’s really me! Obviously I’m very flattered.

“I’m proud to be a representative for the third sector and community action.”
