Calderdale young comedian wows Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent

Jack Carroll, from Hipperholme, appeared on the first show of the new series on Saturday and was given a standing ovation by the panel of Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

As the 14-year-old started walking onto the stage with a walking aid due to his cerebral palsy, he made the panel chuckle as he introduced himself as a professional gymnast.

And from his opening line of “Don’t worry, I know what you’re thinking. Harry Potter’s had a nasty Quidditch accident!”, He had members of the sell out crowd hooked.

He was given a glowing response from all the judges.

Simon Cowell had huge praise for the youngster: “I’ve got to tell you Jack, you have got one of the most refreshing attitudes.

“You made fun of what you’ve gone through and you made it funny, which is really, really difficult.

“You’ve just got an incredible personality and I’m really happy that I met you!”

Before going onto the stage after another comedian had failed miserably, he compared it to entering a Roman amphitheatre and before the show he said: “I have had cerebral palsy since I was born. Basically, I’ve still got it, it won’t go away.

“I use my cerebral palsy in my act because in comedy, a lot of times your weaknesses are your strengths. It’s like the elephant in the room and then when you mention it, they can relax and enjoy the rest of the funny jokes.”

Jack first shot to fame thanks to a YouTube video and won a role on CBBC show Ministry of Curious Stuff alongside his comedy hero Vic Reeves.

He was also presented with a Pride of Britain award at the end of last year.
