Boothtown arsonists even targeting pegged out washing

Residents in Boothtown are being plagued by fie bugs who are setting fire to pegged out laundry, bins and estate agent signs.

West Yorkshire’s police and fire services have issued a joint appeal following a spate of 26 arsons in the last six weeks in locations including; Titan Works, Grantham Road, Camel Road and Iona Street.

There has also been a number of incidents of criminal damage, including an incident at the Bankfield Museum last Monday (June 8) where windows were smashed and £1,000 of damage was caused.

The fire service’s district commander for Calderdale, Martyn Greenwood, said: “Arson is a drain on our resources and can have extremely serious consequences.”

PC Anna Law said: “I would urge people to be vigilant and to report anything, or anyone suspicious to the police. Enquiries are ongoing.”
