Mark Burns-Williamson said the policing body will put victims and witnesses at the heart of its work. Integrated partnership working, highlighting road safety issues and tackling human trafficking are areas of key focus for 2015.

He noted the “huge challenges” to face.

“This coming year again sees huge challenges for our police service and across vital public services with government cuts to the police budget that have already resulted in £162 million of savings needed by 2016/17.

“This puts a significant strain on already challenged public services, so it is crucial we continue to work smarter and better together to keep our communities safer,” he said.

Mr Burns-Williamson said the body will respond to financial challenges by working smarter and more effective.

“We have also created co-located hubs across the districts so Neighbourhood Policing Teams and many others are based with partners including safeguarding teams and local authorities to ensure we are working together in the community where the public needs us, providing the most appropriate interventions,” he said.

The Commissioner announced a new victim’s code for 2015 and the launch of www.helpforvictims.co.uk

An Anti-Trafficking Network has been established across the region.

“I look forward to making sure our communities are safer and feel safer throughout 2015 and would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for what you have already done in reducing crime overall, and wish everyone all the very best for you and your families over festive period and the New Year,” he said.
