Halifax taxi driver suspected of dealing drugs from his car arrested by police

A Halifax taxi driver suspected of dealing drugs from his car has been arrested by police officers.

Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Team officers conducted a traffic stop on the licensed taxi following intelligence being provided to the police that the driver was dealing drugs from the vehicle.

Following a search, the driver was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug due to drugs being found upon his person.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: " Officers acting on intelligence carried out a stop of a vehicle on Shay Lane, Halifax on February 28.

"A search of the property was carried out and a 51 year old man from Halifax was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

"He has been released under investigation and enquiries remain ongoing.

"Anyone who has information relating to the selling and dealing of drugs in their should contact police, as officers will continue to act upon intelligence."

A search of the vehicle and his home address resulted in more controlled drugs being located.

A spokesperson for the policing team said: "The taxi was seized and taxi licensing have been made aware of this incident so they can take appropriate action against the driver.

"A handful of tasks now need to be done in order to gather the evidence against the taxi driver, these include sending the pills for forensic examination to identify exactly what drug it is and sending his phone for downloading, amongst other crucial evidential requirements."
