Volunteer group members will be called upon to advise during major investigations, explore community issues and question police practices and policies.

District Commander, Chief Superintendent Dickie Whitehead said: “The formulation of an Independent Advisory Group in the district is an opportunity for the people of Calderdale to put themselves forward to be the ‘critical friend’ of the organisation.

“The model has proved successful in other areas of the Force, and I am sure will be a great addition to the successful partnerships we already have in the district. We all have a part to play in protecting the vulnerable and keeping our communities safe and feeling safer.

“I’d really like to encourage people to put their names forward and think about getting involved to work with us to keep Calderdale a safe place to work, live and bring up families.”

An Open Evening will be held on Tuesday June 2 at Halifax police station between 6-8pm where people can find out more about volunteering in the Police. Anyone interested and or wanting to find out more information they are asked to email: [email protected]
