Man attacked and racially abused on Todmorden bus

A man was racially abused before being attacked on a Todmorden bus.

The 22-year-old victim was initially subjected to racial abuse by a man whilst waiting at Todmorden Bus Station at around 9.40pm on Tuesday, April 21.

After boarding the 590 service, which was travelling towards Rochdale, the victim was again racially abused by the same suspect before twice being punched in the face.

The victim is believed to have hit the suspect in self defence three times.

The suspect got off the bus near the Morrisons supermarket on Rochdale Road and walked back towards Todmorden town centre.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail.

PC Sarah Royle, from the Todmorden Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have been at Todmorden Bus Station on that Tuesday evening and recalls seeing the incident.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who may have been on the 590 bus.

“Your information could be vital to this investigation and I would ask you to come forward.”
