Man jailed for his part in Mytholmroyd motorbike theft

An OAP who said his sentence for child sex abuse should be cut because of his old age has had his case rejected.

A court heard how Nathan Wolfenden, of Draughton Street, Bankfoot, got involved in the professionally planned raid just two days after a judge had given him a suspended prison sentence for his role in an organised shoplifting expedition.

Wolfenden and his three accomplices were caught on CCTV buying food at a takeaway before they drove to the Moderna Business Park where the valuable motorbikes and other equipment was being stored.

Prosecutor Peter Hampton told Bradford Crown Court that the roller shutters on the unit were forced open during the raid in November 2013 and four off-road motorbikes were stolen.

Mr Hampton said the burglars had to make two trips in their van in order to remove the bikes.

Wolfenden’s accomplices were each jailed for eight months at an earlier hearing and he finally pleaded guilty to the burglary charge.

Last month another judge had locked up Wolfenden for eight months in respect of the suspended prison sentence made back in November 2013 and Judge Peter Benson told him he would have to serve an additional 10 months for the burglary.

The judge said Wolfenden had an extensive record for dishonesty and he highlighted the fact that the burglary was committed within two days of the suspended prison sentence being imposed.

Judge Benson said the premises had clearly been targeted deliberately by the gang because they contained high-value motorcycles.
