A motorway officer feared for his life after a driver stopped in lane three on the busy M62 during an attempted pullover.

PC Martin Willis - known as 'Motorway Martin' on Twitter - said he thought his 'number was up' during the stop on Monday night (February 22).

PC Willis had attempted to pull a Volswagen driver over to the hard shoulder.

However, the driver came to an abrupt stop on lane three of the motorway instead - putting both of their lives in danger.

PC Willis had some advice for other drivers in a similar position.

The officer tweeted: "I thought my number was up last night!

"Attempted to pull this vehicle over to the hard shoulder and the driver decided to stop in lane 3!

"If an emergency vehicle with blue lights is behind you, move to the left and they will either pass you or follow you onto the hard shoulder."

Social media users were shocked by the situation.

One said: "Wow, that is frightening!

"I really appreciate the job you do and the risks it entails!"
