Police appeal: Man attacked and racially abused in Huddersfield

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked and racially abused outside the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Huddersfield.

The victim, a 37-year-old Asian man, was walking towards the shopping centre entrance on Kings Street at approximately 4.45pm on Saturday, May 3, when he became aware of six men standing nearby. They shouted racial abuse at him before one of the group, a large man with a bald head, grabbed the victim from behind, ending up in a struggle on the floor.

The group then left in the Zetland Street direction.

They are described as aged in their late 20s to early 30s and are not believed to be local. They were under the influence of alcohol.

PC Dave Hall said: “I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or who has further information about those involved to contact myself in the Huddersfield South Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.”
