Police appeal: Man with machete attempts to rob convenience store

A machete-wielding would-be robber threatened a Halifax shopkeeper before running off empty-handed.

Police have issued a witness appeal after the incident, which happened at Ovenden Road Convenience Store, Ovenden Road, Halifax at 7.30pm on Sunday.

The suspect went in to the store, threatened the shopkeeper with a machete and told him to empty the takings into a bag. He left empty-handed and was last seen fleeing towards the Boothtown area.

The suspect is described as 5ft 10ins tall, in his late 20’s and medium to chunky build. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black balaclava, a blue tracksuit-type top jacket and black gloves. He was carrying a cream and green shopping bag.
