Police called to Brighouse after spate of wheelie bin fires

Police were called to Brighouse last night (Wednesday) after a number of wheelie bins were set on fire throughout the town.

The first was behind the GMB Union Building on Clifton Road at 11.24pm.

Three appliances from Brighouse initially attended and used one hose reel to extinguish the flames.

Brighouse watch commander Nigel Dodd said that led to a number of other fires in the town centre.

Mr Dodd said: “It was fortunate that there was a high wall behind the trade union building which prevented the fire from spreading to the building.

“That led to a series of bin fires in Brighouse town centre. The police dealt with them and they’re looking at the CCTV.”

It is thought the fires were started deliberately.
