Police dog finds suspected burglar 'attempting to be a tree' in Calderdale garden

A West Yorkshire Police dog found the suspect of a burglary making 'poor attempts' to be a tree in a garden neighbouring the location of the incident.

Police were called to reports of a burglary on a building site in Hipperholme in the evening of February 21, in an incident that carried on until the early hours of the morning on February 22.

West Yorkshire Police dog PD Macy tracked through the site and into the ground of a nearby house where she located a suspect 'making poor attempts' to be a tree in the garden.

The small building development of luxury houses in Calderdale have been subject to several burglaries recently, according to PD Macy's operational handler.

The police handler said the suspect made attempts to hide amongst trees and bushes but Macy soon 'twigged' where he was and began to 'bark' at him.

He added that the suspect made a run for it over a wall but his escape route was 'stumped' by Macy and he had no other option but to 'root' his feet to the spot.

One person is being held in custody on suspicion of burglary.

The West Yorkshire Police operational dog handler took to Twitter to explain what had happened. He tweeted: "Ongoing burglary at building site.

"PD Macy deployed who quickly tracks through the site, into large grounds of nearby house where she locates suspect making poor attempts to be a tree in the garden.

"One in custody for burglary."

He then added: "It was near Hipperholme, a small building development of luxury houses which have been subject to several burglaries recently.

"The suspect made attempts to hide amongst trees and bushes in a neighbouring garden but Macy soon "twigged" where he was and began to "bark" at him.

"He made a run for it over a wall but his escape route was "stumped" by Macy and he had no other option but to "root" his feet to the spot."
