Police link dramatic car chase to jewellers robbery

More details have emerged potentially linking the armed robbery of a Halifax jewellers to a dramatic police chase through Halifax.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses who saw a black BMW at Arches Street, where a stolen silver BMW 520D model, registration DV63 RMO, had been abandoned.

The car had been involved in a robbery of a jewellers on Corn Market, Halifax at 4.51pm on Monday January 5.

The black car with a registration AK57 LSU was approached by police officers and then sped away from the scene at around 8pm.

A police pursuit followed involving the police helicopter and the police dog team and saw the BMW drive at speed on the opposite side of the road.

The car then stopped in Willow Dene Avenue in Sowerby Bridge where two males jumped from the car and escaped on foot.

Earlier in the day three men had entered the jewellers store and stole a number of watches. They had baseball bats and sledge-hammers on them.

Detective Inspector Chris Wood, of Calderdale CID said all lines of enquiries are being followed and would like to thank the amount of witnesses who have already come forward.

He also urged anyone who may have information to continue to contact the police.
