Taxi stolen during pick up in Heckmondwike

A taxi driver had his car stolen after he went to pich up a fare in Heckmondwike.

The car was taken during a robbery on Saturday night (January 3) on Dale Lane.

It happened as the taxi driver was in the area to pick up a customer. He got out of the vehicle, leaving the engine running.

As he did so he was pushed from behind, causing him to fall over. The taxi, which is a blue coloured Toyota Verso, and has the registration YR60 VVO, was then driven off in the direction of White Lee Road.

Officers want to speak to a man in his early 20s in connection with the incident.

He is described as 5’6” tall, of medium build and wearing a dark coloured jacket.

It is thought he got out of a light coloured car (possibly white) which was similar to either an Astra or Peugeot and had a different coloured roof.

There was possibly the number one in the registration.

That car made off in the direction of White Lee Road and was followed by the taxi.

DC Richard Brooke of Kirklees CID, said: “This incident happened at a busy time on a Saturday night and I am appealing to anyone in the area who witnessed the incident or who saw any suspicious activity to get in contact. A local taxi driver is now without his main means of earning a living.”
