Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson, who is leading the investigation into the disappearance and subsequent murder of Lindsay Jo Rimer 20 years ago, said officers are also reviewing forensic evidence from the case.

Speaking at a press conference at Hebden Bridge Town Hall alongside Lindsay’s mum Geri Rimer, Det Supt Atkinson said the police have “good information” that a dedicated team of officers is following up.

“We are looking back and re-interviewing the people of interest that were highlighted back in 1994 and 1995,” he said.

“Allegiances change, people move on, relationships break down and we want to make sure the information we have got is bang up to date.

“I believe the answers lie here because Lindsay was out in Hebden Bridge when she went missing and she was found not so far away. That adds to my suspicion that the person responsible had local knowledge.

“We have a dedicated team of officers who are working on this case constantly. It’s not a case that will go away, It will not be forgotten about. We’re all determined to find Lindsay’s killer and get some answers for the Rimer family.”

Det Supt Atkinson, who said it was possible that Lindsay knew her Killer, also revealed that there had been developments in the case since an earlier witness appeal in November 2014. He said a man who was on CCTV at the time of Lindsay’s disappearance but had never been traced has come forward and people who were in and around Hebden Bridge at the time have also contacted police.

Lindsay went missing after leaving the family home on Cambridge Street, Hebden Bridge, on November 7, 1994. She had been to the former Spar convenience store on Crown Street to buy cornflakes and was last seen at 10.22pm. Earlier that night she had briefly stopped in at the Trades Club on Holme Street where she met her mum before buying the cornflakes.

The body of the 13-year-old Calder High School student was found in the Rochdale Canal on April 12, 1995.

Talking about the 20-year-fight for justice since her daughters’s murder, Geri Rimer said: “I don’t think we cope. I think we have just learnt to live with it. We never thought it would be 20 years - we never thought Lindsay would be murdered.

“I just can’t believe that we have gone through 20 years and still not got the right information when we are all thoroughly convinced that the answer lies within the Valley.

Sunday marks the 20th anniversary of when Lindsay’s body was found and speaking for the first time in 20 years about her younger sister’s murder, Kate Rimer said: “When you go through this and experience the murder of a loved one you’re filled with grief and it doesn’t go away. It doesn’t get easier.

“But we can’t lose the grief and start remembering her with love until this person has come forward.

“We miss her so much and everything is tainted. Every memory of her is tainted because of what happened to her - that she was murdered and her body dragged into the canal.
