Cow Green was the first multi-storey car park to be built in Halifax in 1971 by the former Halifax Borough Council and the Halifax Building Society, which originally leased half of the 500 spaces.

Calderdale Council announced the closure of Cow Green Car Park due to its poor condition in 2013.

The concrete structure was built in the early 1970s and provided 226 public parking spaces.

A further 310 spaces were leased as private spaces to Lloyds Banking Group.

The council said in 2013 that the car park has now reached the end of its useful life after structural inspections revealed it was in a “very poor condition”.

The site is set to be put on the open market for development.
