Drop in and have your say on public transport

Calderdale Council is supporting the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s (WYCA) consultation on local bus and transport systems, which is running until Friday 21 October.

There will be ‘your travel, your say’ drop-in sessions all over the county and a survey can be completed online for those who are unable to attend but still want to share their views.

The next local drop in will be at Calderdale Royal Hospital next Monday (August 22) shortly followed on Friday (August 26) by one in Sowerby Bridge Tesco.

Each drop-in event will be attended by a team from WYCA plus bus service operators, who will be available to answer questions and help people take part.

The aim of the drop-in sessions is to find out what people think about local bus services and the county’s transport in order to create the best possible bus network.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Environment, Coun. Dan Sutherland, said: “These drop-in events are the opportunity for people to have their say on public transport facilities and provide feedback on topics like ease of use, value for money and reliability.

“I hope people go along to the sessions or fill out the survey online, to ensure Calderdale has a strong voice in future WYCA proposals.”

The feedback given at the sessions will help the development of a new 20 year West Yorkshire bus and transport strategy.

Coun. Keith Wakefield, West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee Chair said: “Everybody is affected directly and indirectly by our transport network and it is one of the main topics when I hold my councillor surgeries so I’d urge everyone to get involved.

“As this is about the overall transport network, we definitely want to hear from car drivers and we also want the view of people who currently don’t or won’t use public transport, to find out why.”
