Emergency crews called to Halifax river

Firefighters and a helicopter were called to Hebble Brook, off Water Lane in Siddal, yesterday afternoon.

It is understood there had been a report of someone in the water.

But West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the call-out was a false alarm.

Firefighters have warned people about the dangers of entering open water.

Anyone who sees someone struggling in water should call 999 and ask for the fire service, who say they have the training and equipment to help.
