Alzheimer's Society in Calderdale is encouraging people to enjoy some family fun and unite against dementia this Dementia Awareness Week (May 14-21).

On Saturday, May 20 staff and volunteers will host a Fun for All event at The Orange Box Theatre in Halifax to encourage local people to tackle dementia by volunteering, donating or campaigning for change.

Tania Taylor, Services Manager for Alzheimer’s Society in Calderdale and Kirklees, said: “We’re calling on people in Calderdale to show their support at our Fun For All event this Dementia Awareness Week.

“Dementia doesn’t care who you are; it could affect us all. It’s set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer, with someone developing it every three minutes, and so many people are facing it alone.”

The fun-packed day will feature a free climbing wall, taster dance classes and a doodle draw space where visitors can create artistic masterpieces for a ‘Generations United Against Dementia’ collage.

The events programme will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and performances from All Souls Operatic Society, Beech Hill School Poems and Dance, Singing for the Brain and more.

There will also be a number of information stalls from Age UK, Memory Lane Café and more inside the theatre at Orange Box Young People’ Centre.
