First bus workers in Calderdale accept pay offer from company

Bus drivers in Halifax and Todmorden have accepted a pay offer put forward by the company on Wednesday.

The offer was accepted by a majority of more than three to one of the 200 plus drivers at First West Yorkshire’s bus operation in Calderdale.

The deal provides a pay increase of nearly 3 per cent over a two year period, representing an average increase of 36p per hour over the two years.

Paul Matthews, managing director of First West Yorkshire said, “We’re very pleased to be able to introduce a very fair and reasonable pay increase for our Calderdale drivers that recognises their hard work whilst being affordable for the company.

“This is a good example of how we’ve worked together with drivers, the union and managers towards a common goal of both recognising the cost pressures faced by our staff and continuing to maintain affordable fares for our customers whilst ensuring we have a sustainable business going forward.”
