Flood fundraising dates coming up

On Saturday, January 30, there will be full day of fundraising at the Duke of Wellington pub, Commercial Street, Halifax.

The day will begin at 10.30am with a breakfast for children, where for £4 they will get their breakfast and a meet and greet with a minion.

From 1pm there will be a DJ playing and from 2pm until 4pm, there will be live music.

There will also be stacks of fantastic charity raffle prizes up for grabs.

Also on Saturday, January 30, musicians will come together at Todmorden’s Unitarian Church Church to perform a Flood Aid concert from 7pm (doors open 6pm, tickets £10 from Physio & Therapies, Halifax Road, Todmorden, or via Eventbrite online).

Pepperjam, Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine Band, Acoustic Durbervilles and Edwina Hayes are all on the bill, plus food, brews, cakes, a licensed bar, Bridestones beer and soft drinks.

A ‘Yorkshire Come Dine With Us’ event will also be held on January 30 to raise funds for the appeal. It will take place at the Brighouse Sports Club from 7pm until 11pm.

There will be live entertainment from local artists, a carvery meal and a raffle.

On Sunday, January 31, there will be a fundraising concert held at the Barge and Barrel pub, Elland. The event, from 2.30pm until 5pm, will feature the Friendly Brass Band.

On Saturday, February 6, a table top sale will be held at Southgate Methodist Church, Elland. It will cost £1.50 and will run between 10am and 2pm.

Also on Saturday, February 6, Hebden Bridge Antiques Centre, will hold a ‘A Bit Of a Do’ from 11.30am until 3pm in St Georges Square. Town crier Les Cutts will be in attendance, there will be free coffee and cake, plus vintage dress and dancing.

On Sunday, February 7, there will be a fundraiser at Heptonstall Social and Bowling Club from 2pm-5pm.

It will be a family day with a disco, bouncy castle, face painting, games and prizes, a buffet, tombola, raffle, surprise Disney guests and more.

A bar will also be open for adults.

The roof will be raised at the Victoria Theatre again next month when some of the biggest names in UK comedy perform on Monday, February 8.

Sarah Millican, Rory Bremner, Chris Ramsey, Justin Moorhouse, local lad Jack Carroll and an unnamed mystery guest will all be giving their time for free at the Wring Out The Clowns Comedy Gala to raise funds for those affected by the floods.

Calderdale Council has hired out the theatre free of charge and all money raised will be split between Community Foundation For Calderdale and Upper Calder Valley Renaissance

Stone Hair Art, Burnley Road, Todmorden’s “Blow Dry Bar” which is being run until February 13 is offering a shampoo, conditioner and head massage with the Stone Academy staff for £5 - all proceeds to their flood appeal. You can book by calling 01706 557075.

On February 13, a coffee morning and bring-and-buy sale will be held in St Jude’s Church Hall, Savile Park, Halifax, from 10.30 until 12.30am.

Also on February 13, there will be a Zumbathon at The Inspire Centre, Calderdale College. It will be held from noon until 2pm, with a guest appearance from Lizzie Jones. Admission is £10, £5 for under 10s.

On Friday, February 19, an evening of pig racing will be held at The Sportsman’s Inn, Greetland. The first race will begin at 8pm, admission is £7.50.
