Halifax lad impresses Kasier Chiefs' Ricky Wilson on The Voice

Tom, a former Waterloo Road star and Bradford City pitch announcer, performed his rendition of ‘Wait on Me’ by Rixton to judges will.iam. Paloma Faith, Ricky Wilson and Boy George.

And it took just ten seconds for his vocals to impress Kaiser Chiefs’ frontman Ricky enough for the judge to turn his chair.

Leeds-born Ricky said: “I heard your voice, you started singing and I thought this is really commercial sounding and it felt like a really safe pair of hands. But I think you’ve got a lot more to give.”

Speaking about his experience, Tom, 24, said: “To get the chance to perform in front of four professionals who have fantastic careers and to listen to their advice is something that doesn’t come along every day, so for that I’m grateful.”

Tom is best known for his role as Paul Langley in BBC TV drama series Waterloo Road.

He appeared in the show for four years and his other film and television credits include Holby City, Starlings and Doctors.

Tom told last night’s The Voice viewers: “I’ve loved all the acting jobs that I have done but if you said to me I had to choose between singing and acting, it would be singing hands down.”
