Harrogate cat rescued by firefighters after three days in tree

The cat had gone missing from her home on Heath Grove last Friday and nearby residents had spotted her up the tree.

Worried neighbours called the RSPCA yesterday (Monday March 16) who called out the Fire Service.

Owner Catherine Phelan, 43, a teacher at Richard Taylor School said she was ‘overwhelmed’ that people had been so keen to help after messages from people offering to climb the tree and set Milly free flooded in on social media.

However North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service saved the day, and a crew was sent to help the cat down.

She said: “They even had to hold the traffic up to get her down it was quite dramatic for our little community.”

Milly is now safe at home with Catherine and her children Tom, 13 and Kate, 10, though the cat flap has now been locked.

“The funny thing is Tom would have walked past the tree on his way to school and even he didn’t spot her up there,” Catherine added.

“We are so relieved to have her home, she is a huge part of our family.”
